My work is rooted in the body. I research particular experiences and understandings of embodiment across cultures and time, seeking to forefront the intimate relationships between body, place, and spiritual experience. My working process utilizes my own and others’ bodies as primary sources of research via kinesthetic exploration and sensory ethnography. Fieldwork and historical research are also key. Current projects include investigations into the nature of skin and the transformation of matter, and its brutal treatment in the industrial slaughterhouse; voice and language in contemporary Ireland; and the experience of loss of sensory capacity. I work across disciplines: video, performance, photography, sound, installation, and sculpture.
